Role – Rachel Owen
Rachel joined the Romero CAT in January 2021 following 4 years as a Parent Governor at Blessed Trinity RC College, Burnley where her children attended. During that time, she served on the Resources and Standards Committees and was the Child Looked After and Modern Foreign Languages Link Governor.
Rachel was born and educated in Burnley, attending the local Catholic High school and Sixth Form and went on to graduate from Hull University and the College of Law in York before returning to Burnley to qualify as a Solicitor in 2000. Rachel worked in three High Street firms for a period of 15 years specialising in Litigation – particularly Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Employment Law and some Family Law. In 2015 she joined the national housing and homelessness charity, Shelter, and retrained as a Housing Solicitor where she continued to work to ensure everyone has a safe home. As part of this role she advises and represents clients from initial interview stage to Court hearings and negotiates with and advocates against individuals and companies.
Rachel is a qualified Mental Health First Aider and was a Trustee of Burnley and Pendle Citizen Advice Service for 13 years.
Passionate about children’s wellbeing and social justice, Rachel uses her legal knowledge and experience to assist the Trust in fulfilling its mission to ensure every child has a right to educational excellence through the provision of high quality schooling.
